Millville Chiropractic Care for Spine and Related Musculoskeletal Pain

Pain makes us a bit self-centered instead of life-centered which is completely logical and logically universal. People around the world experience pain, back pain, neck pain, musculoskeletal pain, a great deal of which is spine-centered. Fortunately, Millville chiropractic care is locally accessible to help manage as well as alleviate spine-related pain.

GLOBAL IMPACT OF SPINE AND MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN CONDITIONS

Data from a worldwide study that tracked spine pain (neck pain and low back pain) patients from 1990 to 2019 revealed that the “years lived with disabilities,” incidence, and prevalence of both conditions rose significantly. Worldwide, neck pain and low back pain were noted to burden public health significantly, especially as people get older, being most problematic in middle age and older. Data also pointed out that these two conditions were more common in women and middle-aged groups and more common in higher socioeconomic indexed countries. (1) Not including low back pain, neck pain, rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoarthritis, the same Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 reported that “other musculoskeletal disorders” increased by 123.4% from 221 million to 494 million people from 1990 to 2019. With over 150 different conditions involving bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and the spine under the umbrella of “other musculoskeletal disorders,” health loss incorporating death and disability due to musculoskeletal disorders is expected to continue its growth. From 2020 to 2050, it is expected to rise by 115% to 1060 million cases. More women are impacted by 47.4% than men. The prevalence of these disorders peaked between 65 and 69 old for both men and women. (2) We at Wilson Family Chiropractic see all types of spine related musculoskeletal disorders as well as neck and back pain. Studies like these motivate us to stay current with spine research to assist you, our Millville chiropractic patient, in the best possible way.

UNDERSTANDING STANDING AND BACK PAIN

Neck pain and back pain are certainly two of our most common painful spinal conditions at Wilson Family Chiropractic…and standing is a daily requisite! Everyone’s spine is a bit different. How we each stand is a little different…and that matters! A new study found that bigger variations in lumbar lordosis (spinal curvature) like upright standing posture with a bit more extension or more prominent curvature like kyphosis may well affect musculoskeletal reaction as far as spinal loading and trunk muscle force. (3) We urge our patients to think about good posture which can beneficially affect havinggood posture which includes standing up straight.

UNDERSTANDING SITTING AND BACK PAIN

And sitting is another daily activity that we all do often without a second thought (until pain forces us think about it constantly!). In a recent study, researchers found that unsupported sitting intensified intradiscal pressure by about 30% in comparison to upright standing. Intradiscal pressures were greater for sitting than standing when back angles were less than 20° and higher for standing than sitting when the angles were more than 20°. Knowing about spinal responses like these are vital in the world of occupational health where lumbar musculoskeletal disorders are a major concern.
