Millville Chiropractic Care: Ultrasound

As a therapeutic modality, ultrasound is a form of heat therapy for soft tissue damage to decrease swelling and pain, reduce muscle spasms, and increase the range of motion. Making high frequency sound waves, ultrasound reaches deep into a damaged area, creating heat that draws blood into the area in order to enhance the healing process.

Ultrasound is applied softly with a handheld soundhead, that uses strokes or circles over the affected area. An ultrasound gel may be administered during the ultrasound therapy session. The role of an ultrasound is to expedite your healing time and relieve your pain.

Research Studies

In one study, the addition of ultrasound to exercise treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis relief decreased the amount of analgesic usage by the patients. (1)
